Creative Writing Competition:

once upon a classroom logo on open book

We all know that creative writing is a relaxing activity that can help improve a child’s mental wellbeing and explore their imagination.

In celebration of National Stationery week, Maped Helix are delighted to launch our Once Upon a Classroom campaign, to encourage creative writing in classrooms around the UK.

The project will task school children in Years 3 to 5 to collaboratively write a story and design an accompanying front cover with their classmates as a way to strengthen relationships with their peers and express their creativity. Perhaps one group can invent the characters for the class story, maybe another group can write a gripping opening, and then of course you’ll need another group to come up with the exciting conclusion!

The task will be introduced to the class on the first day of National Stationery Week, Monday 13th May by children’s author Ffion Jones, a passionate mental health advocate who uses her books as a way to reach children struggling with mental health difficulties and improve their confidence and self-belief.

Any school in the UK can sign up to take part, simply complete the sign up form below to be included.

The best stories from each year group chosen by Maped Helix and Ffion will be included in a book which will be distributed to the winning classes. The winners will also receive a bumper class pack of Maped Helix stationery!

Schools can sign up below between March 27th and May 8th – Good luck and happy writing!
