We all know that creative writing is a relaxing activity that can help improve a child’s mental wellbeing and explore their imagination.
In celebration of National Stationery week, Maped Helix launched our Once Upon a Classroom campaign, to encourage creative writing in classrooms around the UK.
This project tasked school children in Years 3 to 5 to collaboratively write a story and design an accompanying front cover with their classmates as a way to strengthen relationships with their peers and express their creativity.
In some cases one group invented the characters for the class story and another group wrote a gripping opening, and then of course another group to came up with the exciting conclusion!
The competition was by children’s author Ffion Jones, a passionate mental health advocate who uses her books as a way to reach children struggling with mental health difficulties and improve their confidence and self-belief.
The competition was open to all school in the UK and after receiving many fantastic entries, we are thrilled to reveal the winners below:
🏆 Winners – Grange Primary School: The Crystal Stealer 🏆 1st runner up – Prudhoe West Academy – Magpie Class: The Lost Goldminer 🏆 2nd runner up – Grand Avenue Primary and Nursery School 5S: The Last Year – Jay & Momo
The above stories will be included in a book which will be distributed to the winning classes. The winners will also receive a bumper class pack of Maped Helix stationery.
A massive well-done to everyone who took part, it was a pleasure to read so many brilliant stories from budding writers across the UK.
Keep your eyes peeled for a digital copy of the book which will be coming soon!
