Learning for Lent: Craft ideas for you to try!

We hope everybody enjoyed pancake day and sharing lots of sweet treats with friends and family! Now that it’s officially the Easter countdown, have you ever considered trying something new as a new and exciting alternative to giving up your favourite things?

We’re here to offer some arts and crafts ideas for you and the family to try as an alternative to giving up your favourite things. We’re hoping this will encourage everyone to instead be more creative, mindful and imaginative this Easter as opposed to missing the chocolate, biscuits and odd glass of wine! We’ve put together some fun ideas that you could incorporate into the next 40 days as we wait for Easter Sunday!

Try a new craft

Our Maped Creativ products offer a wide range of new and exciting crafting techniques to try and perfect! From aqua art to bracelet making, there’s something for everyone to get their teeth stuck into this Easter. Learning a new craft has incredible mental benefits as an act of self-care or as a way to regulate emotions and ground yourself during a busy day/week. These benefits are not restricted to only adults or children, everybody can benefit from learning a new craft and have fun whilst learning! Definitely a great alternative to no more chocolate!

Change up your go-to colour palettes

Everybody has their favourite colours or go-to highlighters, so why not try something new for Easter? An easy and simple way to “challenge” yourself and open yourself up to alternative styles and colours. If you love your neons, why not try our glitter pastels instead? Or if you’re pastels through and through, why not try our metallic range?! Switching up your stationery go-to’s is a great way of stepping out of your comfort zone and feeling like you’re trying something new.

Handwrite something everyday

In a world full of technology everywhere we turn and “easier” or “quick fix” options, handwriting has sadly become a rarity or hobby of the past. With texting, digital e-cards and video calls, I bet the majority of us can’t actually remember the last time we sat and wrote something by hand – even out to-do lists and calendars are on our phones! Therefore, a lead up to Easter challenge idea could be for you to hand-write something each day. Whether it be a card for a loved one or just your weekly shopping list, putting pen to paper everyday for 40 days could be a brilliant way to revive a beautiful pastime.

Get crafty with your Mother’s day cards

Mother’s day will fall into the lead up to Easter this year, so what a perfect opportunity to get crafty and show your love and appreciation all in one?! Handmade cards are such a thoughtful alternative and a great way to get children involved in crafts with a meaning. Our water-coloured felt pens are the perfect addition to a job as important as this!

Share a stationery related gift

Any birthdays or special occasions during March and April this year? Why not incorporate a stationery-style gift into their presents?! Stationery as well as a hobby can make for beautiful gifts for stationery lovers or as a lovely way to encourage a little me time for your loved ones. Our journaling set is the perfect gift for anyone who loves pastels, highlighters and note-making. Plus, it’s perfectly themed for Spring and Easter!

Top Tip: You can buy our journaling set right now on TikTok shop!

Perfect a stationery skill that you love

Do you love Journaling? Painting? Sketching? Why not set yourself the task of perfecting that craft and teaching yourself something new in that hobby field! If you love journaling why not use TikTok to research new trends and bullet journaling prompt pages? Or grab yourself some new paint supplies and perfect a spring-time countryside landscape?

Start mindful journaling each day/week

Keeping a diary of your day can be a really lovely way to document special occasions, your feelings or things you get up to day to day and having the ability to look back over those things is such a rewarding and heart-warming thing to be able to do! Encourage your children, and/or participate yourself and write a few sentences each day about your favourite part of the day and what you got up to, and read back on Easter Sunday to reminisce on the positive things you’ve got up to over the past 40 days!

Do a stationery spring clean and replenish

The annual spring clean doesn’t need to stop at our houses, let’s do a stationery spring clean too! We’re all guilty of letting old pens, lost lids, empty colouring pens accumulate – so now is the perfect time of year to sort through our drawers and treat ourselves to some fresher stationery!

Top Tip: Here at the Maped Helix offices, we love to use drawer dividers and desktop pen caddies to organise our favourite stationery pieces!

Craft something for you to wear

Arts and Crafts can absolutely go hand in hand with fashion accessories! If you’re on a spending ban for Easter (like myself!) then getting creative with your crafts is a great way to add something special without spending!

Create a springtime scrapbook!

A wonderful way to collect memories and a fun and creative activity? We love scrapbooking at Maped Helix and see the trend becoming increasingly popular! This is a great way to incorporate an every day activity of taking lovely photos for memories and turning it into a meaningful craft activity for you and the family to enjoy together. As a daily or weekly Easter activity, you could add to the scrapbook every Sunday and look back on what you’ve all got up to that week!
